DTF prints your artwork onto a film, then heat presses it onto the garment. It gives full colour on any fabric, including polyester and blends where other methods struggle, with no minimum colour count.

What should I know about DTF printing?
The short guide.
When DTF is the right choice
Polyester jerseys, athleisure, blends, nylon and anything DTG cannot bond to. Full colour artwork in quantities too small to justify screens. Work that has to sit on a textured or technical fabric. It is the most flexible of the four methods, which is why it has taken over so much of the small run market.
When it is not
If you want the print to disappear into a cotton t-shirt, DTG does that better: DTF leaves a thin film you can feel with a fingertip. On long runs of a simple logo, screen printing wins on cost per piece. On anything that will be washed hard and often, embroidery lasts longer than any print.
Artwork that prints well
The same rules as DTG. Vector preferred, 300 DPI at printed size otherwise, transparent background. DTF handles fine detail and small text better than screen printing does, so a logo with a tagline under it will stay legible where a screen would fill in.

Questions about DTF printing.
Is DTF or DTG better for a cotton t-shirt?
DTG if you want nothing to feel on cotton. DTF if the design has fine detail or small text, or the garment is a blend. We do both in-house, so the mockup comes with the method we recommend and why.
Can DTF go on a polo or a hoodie?
Yes, on polos, hoodies and jerseys as well as t-shirts, because the film bonds to cotton, polyester and blends alike.
What is DTF printing?
Direct to film printing. Artwork is printed onto a film, coated with adhesive powder, then heat pressed onto the garment.
What fabrics does DTF work on?
Cotton, polyester, blends and nylon. It is the method to use when the garment is not mostly cotton.
Can you feel a DTF print?
Yes, as a thin smooth film on the surface. DTG is the method to ask for if you want no feel at all.
Is DTF good for sports jerseys?
Yes. It bonds to polyester and flexes with the fabric, which is why it is common on jerseys and athleisure.
Is there a minimum quantity for DTF?
There are no screens to set up, so small runs are viable. The order minimum for a given garment is shown on its page.
