Sublimation printing turns dye into a gas that bonds inside polyester fibres, so the print becomes part of the fabric. It covers a garment edge to edge, cannot crack or peel, and works on polyester only.

What should I know about sublimation printing?

How sublimation works
The design is printed onto transfer paper with sublimation ink. Heat and pressure turn that ink into a gas, which enters the polyester fibres while they are opened by the heat, and is locked in as they cool. For an all-over garment the cloth is printed first and the panels are cut and sewn afterwards, which is how a design can run across a seam without a gap.
Why polyester and nothing else
The dye bonds with polyester and not with cotton. On a blend, only the polyester share takes the colour, so the result looks washed out in proportion to the cotton in it. That makes jerseys, sports tees, running vests and polyester polos the natural candidates, and sends a cotton t-shirt to DTG or DTF instead.
White, and dark backgrounds
Sublimation cannot print white. White areas in the design are simply unprinted cloth, which is why the garment starts white or very light. A dark shirt is made by printing the dark colour as the background across the whole panel, so the artwork file needs to include it. The mockup shows the result before anything is printed.

Can I order one sublimated jersey first?
Yes. One jersey is a real order, so a sample before the team set is normal.
Can sublimation go on a polo?
Yes, on a polyester polo, with the collar in the design if you want it. On a cotton pique polo, embroidery or DTF is the right method.
What is sublimation printing?

Can you sublimate on cotton?
