Sublimation jerseys carry the whole design in the fabric: body colours, patterns, sponsors, names and numbers, dyed into polyester before the panels are sewn. Nothing sits on top, so nothing can crack, peel or lift.

What should I know about sublimation jerseys?
The short guide.
Sublimated or heat-pressed numbers
The common alternative to a sublimated jersey is a plain shirt with numbers and names heat-pressed on top. Those sit as a film on the surface, which is what cracks, lifts at the corners and peels after a season of washing. A sublimated number is dyed into the same fibres as the shirt, so it lasts as long as the jersey does. The trade-off is that the jersey has to be polyester.
Designing across the panels
The cloth is printed panel by panel and then cut and sewn, so a design can run across the front, over the shoulder and down the sleeve without a break. The places to keep text away from are the side seams and the underarm, where the panels meet and fold. The mockup shows the design on the finished shirt, not just as flat artwork.
When sublimation is not the answer
Sublimation cannot print white, so white areas are unprinted cloth and the shirt starts light. A team that wants the feel of cotton, or a dark shirt with one small embroidered crest, is better served by another method. All five, embroidery, screen printing, DTF, DTG and sublimation, are done in-house, so the method follows what the team actually wants.
