What should I know about custom embroidery?
The short guide.
What embroidery is for
Anything that has to last and anything that has to look considered. Team wear, polos, caps, outerwear and the left chest of a hoodie. It is the finish that reads as a garment someone chose rather than one they were given, which is why corporate orders default to it.
What it cannot do
Photographs, gradients and very small text. Thread has a minimum size below which letters fill in and stop being legible, which is usually around four millimetres of cap height depending on the typeface. If a logo has a tagline in six point type, it will need to be redrawn or dropped for embroidery.
Digitising
Artwork has to be converted into stitch paths before it can be embroidered. That conversion decides how the logo sits, how it survives washing and whether it puckers on a lighter fabric. It is a one-off per design: once a logo is digitised, it can be run again on any garment without redoing it.

Can you embroider a name on just one shirt?
Yes. One piece is a real order on most of the range, and names can change on every piece from a list.
Will embroidery pucker on a t-shirt?
It can on fine jersey, which is why the logo is digitised for the fabric it goes on. Polos, hoodies and caps take embroidery well; a large design on a thin tee is usually better printed.
What is embroidery digitising?
Converting artwork into stitch paths a machine can run. It is done once per design and then reused on any garment.
Will embroidery survive washing?
Yes. It is stitched into the cloth, so it does not crack, peel or fade. It outlasts the garment.
Can you embroider any logo?
Most. Photographs, gradients and very small text do not translate to thread and would need redrawing or printing instead.
